Celebrating Clifton Arts 120 years
This is a ‘save the dates’ letter about the great plans we have for our 120th Anniversary.
We are calling upon you all to get involved.
Details on how to enter will be sent to you and be available on the website shortly.
We are holding 3 exhibitions
Wednesday 8th-18th July with a spectacular Preview on Tuesday July 7th at 6.30pm
-The first at the RWA will be curated works, created by early Clifton Arts members known as“Art Then!” running from 3rd July-3rd August at the RWA, curated by neurodiverse students from across the City.
-The second will be Clifton Arts is presenting a Member’s exhibition, from Wednesday 8-18th July known as “Art Now!”. The pictures will not be for sale, they will be artworks showcasing one of your very best works to be displayed in the Sanctuary of the Victoria Methodist Church. Prizes will be awarded. What a great opportunity to reflect upon the styles, topics and skills across more than a century of work by CA members in adjacent venues. There will a charge to enter your favourite painting . Closing date: June 1st.
-The third CA exhibition will be a Big Art Fair of Members’ works in the Undercroft of the Church. There will be a fee to enter up to five works (in addition to the one for Art Now! ). Commission is being kept at 30%. As always, we encourage all forms of media. We welcome 3-D as well as prints, both of which will have a reduced entry rate and level of commission. Closing date: June 15th.
We will be putting a lot of effort into marketing and expecting a lot of media interest in the whole event. Clifton Arts Club brought post-impressionism to Bristol in 1906, what an impact this has had on Bristol’s cultural development.
Do join us in what is going to be a fascinating, impressive and interesting celebration.
You can to this in a number or all of the following ways
1. Enter your favourite painting by you, that you would never part with, for Art Now!
2. Enter paintings, ceramics, mosaics, textiles, prints for the Members’ Fair
3. Enter a new Square for this celebration (blanks available at all meetings or by post from Lea Aldridge)
4. Volunteer to steward – we need a lot of help even if you are not entering, but we are hoping a lot of members will want to enter
5. Let us know of any music groups who might like to perform for free and promote their repertoire, as Clifton Arts members did in the past
6. We are also creating a piece of Public Art with our partners and visitors and if you would like to help with this
7. We are putting art demonstrations on too, and if you would be interested in doing a slot of this or can help with 4,5,6 please contact: exhibitions@cliftonarts.org
