In 2026 it is the Club’s 120th anniversary and we have an ambitious plan for the exhibition this summer. We hope to hold three simultaneous exhibitions between 6th and 18th July and encourage all our members to get involved.
The first, will be at the RWA featuring early CAC members’ work from 1906 onwards, currently held in their archive. These amazing artworks will be curated by students from across the city who will be on work experience with the RWA. This is part of the RWA’s outreach and so, in late June, with help from our members, they will create an exhibition downstairs in the RWA from 3rd July for a month.
The second exhibition will be next door, in the Victoria Methodist Church from 6th to18th July, where we are inviting as many of you as possible to submit one work that you never intend to sell. The picture you probably have on the wall and is your favourite creation. These paintings together, we know, will together make a very impressive, exhibition in the beautiful Sanctuary and will be a fascinating contrast with our members’ work produced from the past. The vision is that this exhibition will not only showcase your work but also encourage visitors to go on to explore the third exhibition to discover more.
The third, selling exhibition, will be running at exactly the same time, and will consist of up to up to four of your artworks for sale, beautifully curated in the large, airy Undercroft of the Church. All the usual features will be there: artist competitions, musical interludes, sales of Prints, Squares and Cards and new activities will be a public artwork contributed to by visitors throughout, sketching group visits, artists and stewards creating, anniversary catalogue, an audiovisual display of the history of the club from material in the archive, and lots more.
As usual entry will be £10 per picture including £10 for your showcase piece. Despite the space we have calculated the maximum number of works we can accept so we will have for the first time a cut-off when we reach that number. So early entry will be encouraged.
